About Grant

📍 Charlotte, NC

Grant Ellison's small collection of gifted wine bottles grew into a real storage problem he's solved (and re-solved) several times over — racks, then proper cooling, then preservation once he started actually drinking what he'd accumulated. He compiles The Corked Collection's recommendations from specs, research, and the consensus of long-term owners.

I'm Grant, a 42-year-old based in Charlotte, NC. I didn't set out to collect wine — it started with a few bottles people gave us for dinner parties, and somehow that turned into a genuine storage problem. First it was running out of counter space, then it was realizing a kitchen cabinet isn't actually a good place to keep wine long-term, then it was figuring out preservation once I started actually drinking what I'd been accumulating instead of just storing it. Every category on this site exists because I had to solve that specific problem myself, in roughly that order. How I pick: I'm not a sommelier and I don't have any formal wine training — what I have is a collection that outgrew three different storage solutions and a habit of researching thoroughly before I buy anything else. Recommendations here come from comparing specs and features against what's actually solved a real problem in my own house, plus close attention to what other long-term owners report — the coolers that ran loud, the racks that wobbled under real weight, the preservation systems that stopped working after a few months. What I won't do: no pretending I've personally used every product reviewed here — most recommendations come from research and owner consensus, and I'll say so plainly when that's the case. No treating a $30 rack and a $400 dual-zone cooler as solving the same problem — they don't, and I'll be specific about which situation actually calls for which.
